On May 10, Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry signed HB 2348, legalizing homebrewing in the state.Oklahoma law already allowed for the home production of wine and cider, but until now excluded beer.

Throughout the legislative process, Oklahoma homebrewers made phone calls and sent emails to Oklahoma representatives and senators asking for support for the homebrew bill. With grassroots legislative efforts like this that don't have the luxury of relying on paid lobbyists, contacts from constituents can make the difference between passage or failure.

The bill was ably sponsored Representative Colby Schwartz and Senator Mike Schulz who pushed the bill through the committee hearings and floor votes in their respective houses of the legislature. The bill was passed by the House by a vote of 76 to 19 before moving to the Senate. The Senate amended the bill slightly before passing it by a 45 to 3 margin. The festival happens May 14-16. All FOAM members should have received a flyer via E-mail with all of the details. FOAM will have a booth at the 3-day festival where we will sell special FOAM at the Dome 2010 pint glasses and tee-shirts, and hand out small samples of homebrew. This event is our primary external fund-raiser, and it is great fun. Our volunteer's schedule is full now, but you can come out and enjoy the FOAM members lounge adjacent to our booth. Come early to be sure you don't miss out on the great-looking FOAM at the Dome 2010 shirts and glasses. I hope to see you at the festival!
